Site Map The primary focus of Peace of Mind – Caring for Seniors at Home is to bring together resources from across the Lower Mainland to help caregivers and seniors to cope with long term care issues. The resources are presented in an alphabetical list format to facilitate printing that topic area.

Community Services
Greater Vancouver has many services offered to seniors through community drop-in centres, community groups that bring services to seniors, as well as businesses that will come to you: hair dressers, handyman services, shopping assistance, etc.
Help for Caregivers
To enable seniors to stay at home when their health and safety begins to decline you may need to bring in outside help. Help for Caregivers lists companies that provide hands-on home help services such as housekeeping, meals, shopping, companions, etc. Also listed are companies that provide health services including nursing and personal care (help with bathing, dressing, etc). If you are a long-distance caregiver, check out the Individual Case Managers, Consultants, and Advocacy providers. Help for Caregivers also includes a list of recruitment agencies that provide live-in caregivers.

Food Services / Nutrition
Companies and community groups that delivery food to your home – be it groceries or prepared meals. Great resources for housebound seniors. The Nutrition page includes links to Dial-a-Dietician and the Provincial Government’s publication “Senior Chef Cookbook.”
Health Care / Home Health Aids provides information on health topics of interest to seniors along with companies that provide equipment (wheelchairs, walkers, lifts, etc) to help seniors with their independence. Companies that provide adaptive clothing are also listed on the Home Health Aides page.
Health Insurance
Companies providing Long Term Care and Critical Illness Insurance are included on the Health Insurance page. Includes a reminder to read the small print in your home insurance policy - it may become null and void if the resident is away from their home (e.g. in the hospital) for an extended period of time.
Senior Housing / Housing Directories / Acts, Regulations & Terminology / Waitlisting
Senior housing is the most popular topic on Peace of Mind. Included here is Peace of Mind’s combined list of Assisted Living and Adult Care Facilities in the Greater Vancouver area, sorted by city. The Housing pages also provide links to the Health Authority housing directories, BC Housing directories offering low rental / affordable housing, and links to several housing providers. Links to Community Care and Assisted Living Act and Regulations are provided along with a page of definitions and terminology used in the senior housing industry along with what services the different types of facilities are allowed to offer. Community Service groups and housing societies that cater to senior housing are also listed. There are links to many booklets and information sheets offered by the various Government departments.
Hospice/Palliative Care
A list of hospice/palliative care providers or facilities in the Greater Vancouver area.
Moving
Included in the Housing section are topics on moving and downsizing.
Visiting
A list of do’s and don’ts when visiting a senior in the hospital or at home.
Transportation
Getting to appointments can be vital for housebound seniors. From BC Transit Handy-Dart and Taxi Saver programs to car modification rebates are included on Peace of Mind’s Transportation page.
